The Waters innovative liquid chromatography (LC) portfolio with Waters Empower Chromatography Data System (CDS) benefits our many customers.
Waters also collaborates with several third-party instrument vendors to provide our customers with additional choice and flexibility on Empower Software. Today, Empower Software controls more than 700 models of instruments, enabling data harmonization across customer businesses.

Waters Instrument Control Partner Program
We recognize that our customers want to experience a high-quality, reliable integration when using Empower Software to control third-party instruments. Waters has established an instrument control partner program to create a uniform process for supporting development and testing of compatible third-party instrument drivers and for providing technical support to customers.
Third-party instrument drivers for Empower Software are developed utilizing a Waters-created, standard approach called Open Interface Portal (OIP). Waters provides our instrument partners with the knowledge and information required to develop drivers for Empower Software, including guidance and support for the OIP approach.
Our partner program supports our customers in using third-party instruments on Empower Software by establishing:
- Consistent driver development, testing, and release processes to improve the quality of instrument drivers
- Product roadmap alignment, to reduce time between new Empower Software releases and instrument driver releases (including Waters sharing pre-release Empower Software with instrument partners to enable them to start their testing early)
- Collaborative support and escalation processes between Waters and the instrument company
