REIMS Research System with iKnife Sampling Device

Direct molecular profiling in seconds

Direct molecular profiling in seconds

Waters Rapid Evaporative Ionization Mass Spectrometry (REIMS) Research System with iKnife Sampling Device combines direct-from-sample ionization with high-performance time-of-flight (Tof) MS and powerful, intuitive informatics, for fast, and easy molecular profiling with zero sample preparation.

The innovative iKnife handheld sampling device produces information-rich vapor directly from the sample surface, which when analyzed by a Tof MS, provides analysts with an accurate molecular profile within seconds.

The combination of these two technologies enables users in applications such as food, microbiology, and pre-clinical tissue research to quickly and easily differentiate samples from one another and confidently identify the differentiating features, allowing greater insight into the chemical, and biological systems under investigation.

For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

For fast easy molecular profiling with zero sample preparation, the REIMS Research System with iKnife Sampling combines direct-from-sample ionization with high performance time-of-flight mass spectrometry and powerful, intuitive informatics. REIMS Research System with iKnife Sampling Device

No sample preparation or chromatography required

MS-based analysis of complex sample matrices often requires sample preparation and chromatographic separation prior to the MS detection. This approach can be time consuming and costly, particularly when large numbers of samples or replicates are required. It can also be technically challenging and can introduce unwanted selectivity to the analysis.

The REIMS Research System with iKnife Sampling removes the need for sample preparation and chromatographic separation, allowing your lab to collect an accurate mass MS profile in just a few seconds per sample. This saves time and money and makes it easier than ever before to obtain detailed molecular information from a range of sample types.

Furthermore, the long, flexible connection between the iKnife handheld sampling device, and the MS allows greater freedom of movement than any other ionization technique, bringing the analysis to the sample.

Quickly determine differences within and between samples

With molecular profile data collected from multiple samples of similar type or origin, it is often not possible to determine significant differences by visual inspection, especially since the differences are often represented by changing ratios of multiple components rather than the presence or absence of a few key species.

LiveID Software offers an intuitive, workflow-based approach to process large data sets using powerful multivariate statistical methods. This quickly highlights similarities and differences between samples, allowing them to be grouped in an objective, and unbiased way.

Identify molecular markers responsible for sample differences

Once samples have been grouped according to their similarities and differences, it is important to understand the reasons for those differences in order to provide a more detailed understanding of the chemical or biological system under investigation.

Progenesis QI highlights spectral features that cause the differentiation between sample groups, and then uses the accurate mass MS data to search databases and identify the molecular markers. These identifications can then be confirmed for a greater level of confidence, for example by conducting targeted tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) experiments to obtain additional structural information.

Compatible with IMS MS/MS or MS/MS
