Real-time sample recognition
LiveID Software enables real-time sample classification using direct analysis mass spectrometry (MS). Get the information you need immediately at the time of analysis for informed, real-time decision-making that removes doubt from sample identity.
LiveID Software can be used with direct mass data generated from a Waters RADIAN ASAP Direct Mass Detector, or quadrupole time-of-flight data generated from Waters Xevo G3 QTof or SYNAPT XS HRMS instruments fitted with a REIMS source.

Fast analysis for a variety of applications
The process is fast, simple, and robust with no requirements for up-front sample preparation. Direct analysis MS measures a range of compounds in an unbiased fashion providing a holistic molecular profile of the chemical components within a sample. LiveID Software has a visually modern, attractive, web-based interface that offers a workflow-driven process which is easy to learn and use. Initially, authentic verified samples are used to create and validate a statistical model. Validated models can then be used with test samples to generate live classifications. The output is a simple to interpret yes/no answer.

Real time library matching
LiveID is also capable of real time library matching workflows, where the software matches all compounds in the library against each sample analyzed, giving a score out of 1000, where values close to 1000 indicate it is likely the compound of interest is in the sample; lower scores indicate it is unlikely to be present in the sample.
Direct analysis MS data
Direct analysis MS data is imported into LiveID. Shown is a total ion chromatogram from ten collections and an example MS spectrum combined from the area highlighted in orange.
Principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA)
After MS data is imported, PCA and LDA are used to build a statistical model of the samples under examination. Shown is a PCA-LDA plot of data from five classes of white fish (cod in yellow, coley in red, haddock in green, pollock in purple, whiting in brown; n= 50–194 different samples of fish per class, with 8–12 ROIs collected per sample).
Classified data for live recognition
Once a statistical model is built with authentic samples and validated, it can be used for live recognition. The image shows data from nine measurements that have been classified as chop or liver. For more information about the identity of chemical components observed from samples, MS data can be further analyzed offline in Progenesis QI.
