XTerra Shield RP8 Column, 125Å, 3.5 µm, 4.6 mm X 150 mm, 1/pk
XTerra columns are based on a patented Hybrid Particle Technology that has enabled chromatographers to break boundaries and realize the full potential of analytical and preparative systems. This lab equipment is a first-generation column, overcoming traditional challenges faced in silica-based packing materials. By replacing one out of every three silanols with a methyl group during synthesis, XTerra Shield RP8 Columns have hydrophobicity that is then distributed throughout the entire structure of the particle backbone. The result is a rugged hybrid particle that enables high-speed separations at high temperatures and high pH.
The first-generation XTerra Shield RP8 Column is a general purpose, hybrid-based, reversed-phase C8 column based on Waters’ patented embedded polar group technology, offering improved peak shape performance when used with highly basic compounds. Compared to silica-based columns in similar applications, the column has superior pH stability and 33% fewer residual silanols after end-capping and bonding processes are complete and provides exceptionally sharp and highly efficient peaks.
Column lifetime can be extended using XTerra Shield RP8 VanGuard Cartridge, 125å, 3.5 µm, 3.9 mm x 5 mm, 3/pk, which also protects against contamination. XTerra columns are manufactured with ultrapure reagents used to control the chemical composition and purity of the Hybrid particle. Each step of the manufacturing process is conducted within narrow tolerances, with each column tested individually and test results provided.
This column is sold one to a package and has an inner diameter of 4.6 mm and a length of 150 mm. There is a 3.5 µm particle size and a pore size of 125å.
How Do I Validate Column Performance?
Each pre-packed column includes an individual quality control report which provides detailed information about the column. This report is available as a ready reference and should be kept in your files for the duration of the column’s lifetime. This report will indicate gel lot, column dimensions, bonding chemistry type, particle shape, particle size, porosity, and chromatographic test conditions. You can also perform an efficiency test on your column before beginning use. Waters recommends using a suitable solute mixture to immediately analyze the column upon receipt and before intended use. Any problems discovered during the initial testing can be reported.
