XTerra MS C18 Column, 125Å, 5 µm, 3.9 mm X 150 mm, 1/pk
XTerra columns have become the fastest-selling and most successful column product in the world of chromatography thanks to their universal acceptance by pharmaceutical scientists in drug discovery, method development, and isolation and purification. The Hybrid Particle Technology that enables these columns allows for use across a variety of fields and applications, including mass spectrometry.
With a peak shape that could previously only be achieved using embedded polar group technology, XTerra MS C18 Columns are compatible with mass spectrometry applications and offer sharp peaks, good sensitivity, and large peak capacities. The trifunctional bonding chemistry in these columns offers the longest lifetime over the widest pH range (1 – 12) while providing maximum throughput, excellent resolution, and ultra-low bleed. Today’s powerful mass spectrometers require selectivity, sensitivity, and structural characterization capabilities that are only offered by XTerra MS columns and their family of lab equipment.
The XTerra packing materials are synthesized using Waters’ Hybrid Particle Technology, with XTerra particles containing both inorganic (silica) and organic (organosiloxane) components, allowing for the advantages of both. This hybrid technology facilitates the high efficiency of separation and improved pH stability when compared to silica-based reversed-phase packing materials.
Manufacturing of XTerra Columns always begins with ultrapure reagents that control the chemical composition and purity of the hybrid particles used. Each step in the process is then conducted within narrow tolerances, with each column tested individually. Excellent reproducibility is guaranteed, as all Waters columns are manufactured in cGMP, ISO 9002 certified facilities under strict guidelines and narrow tolerances. Each column is individually tested. Further verification can be completed using Reversed-Phase QC Reference Material.
What Is The pH Range For XTerra MS C18 Columns?
XTerra columns have a widened usable pH range over silica-based columns. MS columns have a pH range of 1 – 12. Although lifetime is greater, it is still finite and will vary depending upon what buffers are used, the concentration of those buffers, and the temperature at which they are used. The Care and Use Manual provided with each column includes a table of recommended and non-recommended buffers to be used as a guideline. Note that high pH use of Phosphate is not recommended despite it generally providing longer lifetimes than silica-based columns.
