ACQUITY UPLC BEH Shield RP18 Column, 130Å, 1.7 µm, 2.1 mm X 50 mm, 1/pk
When Waters changed the landscape of chromatography by releasing the ACQUITY UPLC system, chromatographers no longer needed to choose between the speed offered by short columns and the resolution capabilities of long columns. Instead, UPLC delivers more information, faster, and without compromising any data integrity. This holistic design is possible through a series of key innovations: small and pressure tolerant particles, high-pressure fluidic modules, minimized system volume, negligible carryover, reduced cycle times, and fast response detectors.
In the ACQUITY UPLC BEH Shield RP18 column, this UPLC technology comes together with Waters’ BEH hybrid particle. This adds efficiency, strength, and pH range to ACQUITY UPLC BEH Shield RP18 columns and is a key enabler of speed, sensitivity, and resolution in separations. The second-generation bridged ethyl-siloxane/silica hybrid structure is combined with additional technologies to enable the rapid development of faster, more robust separations. One such technology is the Shield Technology present in this column.
ACQUITY UPLC BEH Shield RP18 columns combine this Shield Technology with BEH particle technology through incorporating an embedded carbamate group into the bonded phase ligand. Embedded polar group (Shield) RP columns contain stationary phases that combine the hydrophobicity of an alkyl ligand with the hydrophilicity of an embedded polar group. This leads to alternate selectivity to that of alkyl reversed-phase columns, improved peak shape for bases, as well as aqueous mobile phase compatibility. This gives Shield columns a unique level of selectivity, especially in polyphenolic compounds.
ACQUITY UPLC BEH Shield RP18 columns provide selectivity that complement the ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 and C8 phases, among other related products like the Reversed-Phase QC Reference Material. When the alternate selectivity and excellent peak shape from the embedded polar group ligand combines with the wide pH range and ultra-efficiency of the 1.7 µm BEH particle, these columns are a powerful and necessary piece of lab equipment for UPLC method development.
What is BEH technology?
Designed at one of the key enablers behind the technology, the BEH particle is Waters’ proprietary 1.7 µm Ethylene Bridged Hybrid particle. The BEH particle is available in three pore sizes (130Å, 200 Å, and 300 Å) and multiple bonded phases, allowing it to be used in both reversed-phase and hydrophilic interaction chromatography. It is applicable from small molecule to large biopharmaceutical analysis. Because BEH uses hybrid particle technology, it boasts inherent chemical stability, making a wider usable pH range available. This enables a versatile and robust separation technology for method development.
What is UPLC?
Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) represents a groundbreaking advancement in the field of separation science, surpassing the capabilities of its predecessor, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). UPLC Columns are meticulously filled with diminutive particles [1.7 – 1.8 µm], bestowing upon your laboratory the ability to attain the epitome of chromatographic performance. By embracing UPLC Technology, your lab can elevate resolution, sensitivity, and speed to unprecedented levels, without having to make any compromises whatsoever.
