XBridge BEH Phenyl-Hexyl Column, 130Å, 5 µm, 4.6 mm X 250 mm, 1/pk
By combining Waters’ proprietary end-capping technique with trifunctional bonding of the phenyl hexyl ligand, XBridge BEH Phenyl-Hexyl Columns offer industry-leading stability at low pH without sacrificing excellent peak shape. With the most chemically stable commercially available Phenyl sorbent on the market, these columns are often used in separations that require alternate selectivity, particularly for analytes that contain an aromatic ring. Chromatographers rely on these properties for a reproducible phenyl column.
XBridge BEH Phenyl-Hexyl Columns are known to provide alternate selectivity when compared with straight chain alkyl columns and embedded polar group columns, especially for compounds with an aromatic moiety. This allows for greater flexibility when developing orthogonal methods for challenging separations. The desired selectivity can be achieved via pi-pi interactions as a result of the stability at low pH, which also offers improved chemical stability that enables column longevity and robust operations.
As a part of the XBridge family of lab equipment, these columns are built using BEH technology and particle synthesis. This use of an ethylene bridged hybrid particle allows for the flexibility to scale between HPLC and UPLC platforms, imparting a high pH dissolution resistance of polymers into the silica particle without sacrificing any of the silica particle’s structural integrity or efficiency.
Column performance is tested extensively during manufacturing, designed to meet industry standards and ensure reproducibility across batches. Further testing can be done using Waters’ Reversed-Phase QC Reference Material. This column has an inner diameter of 4.6mm and a length of 250 mm, with a surface area of 185.
What Are The Operating Limits For The XBridge BEH Phenyl-Hexyl Column?
XBridge columns can tolerate pressures up to 6,000 psi (400 bar), however, pressures greater than 5,000 psi should be avoided in order to maximize column and system lifetimes. At low pH, the column can tolerate up to 80 degrees C. Somewhere between 20 and 8- degrees C is recommended in order to enhance selectivity, lower solvent viscosity, and increase mass transfer rates. At high pH, a limit of 60 degrees C is recommended. Remember that any temperature above ambient will have a negative impact on lifetime, varying depending on the pH and buffer conditions used. The recommended pH range is 1 to 12.
