Product Description

As the premier column for method development, the 1.7 um ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 sorbent provides you with the most universal column choice for UPLC separations. The trifunctionally bonded BEH particle gives you the widest usable pH range (pH 1-12), superior low pH stability, and ultra-low column bleed for high sensitivity MS applications. The VanGuard pre-column connects directly to the inlet of the ACQUITY UPLC column which minimizes extra columns volumes and reduces leaking by eliminating additional connections.

ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 VanGuard Pre-column, 130Å, 1.7 µm, 2.1 mm X 5 mm, 3/pk

For applications where chemical and/or particulate contamination are known to shorten the lifetime of a UPLC column, it is important to use proper sample preparation and cleanup procedures in order to preserve the ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 Column, 130Å, 1.7 µm, 1 mm X 50 mm, 3/pk that you're using. It is also equally important to use instruments built for these cases, like the ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 VanGuard Pre-column. Whether you are shopping for lab equipment, working in bioanalysis, food and beverage, natural products, or environmental and industrial chemical analysis, this column can help extend the use of columns.

As the first pre-column for UPLC applications, the VanGuard pre-column is the product of over two years of development and offers guaranteed compatibility with pressures up to 15,000 when used on the ACQUITY UPLC system. With a 2.1 mm ID x 5 mm length, the pre-column features an ultra-low volume design in order to efficiently protect UPLC column performance. This is all done with a patent-pending design that does not compromise Waters' holistic design approach to UPLC, including higher efficiency, greater resolution, and increased throughput. The same UPLC column hardware, particles, and chemistries as in all ACQUITY UPLC column stations and frits, allowing a direct connection to the greater system. With this approach, leaks and connection voids are eliminated and extra column volumes are minimized.

This offers the same benefits as an ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 column, the most universal column choice for UPLC separations. This column uses the trifunctionally bonded BEH particle and offering the widest possible pH range (1-12), excellent pH stability, and very low column bleed in high sensitivity MS applications. This BEH technology enables the superior speed, sensitivity, and resolution of UPLC separations with the ACQUITY system.

What is BEH Technology?

One of the key enablers behind UPLC technology, the 1.7-µm BEH (Ethylene Bridged Hybrid) particle is available in varying pore sizes and bonded phases, allowing both reversed-phase and hydrophilic interaction chromatography. The technology applies to a range of small molecule to large molecule biopharmaceutical analysis. Hybrid particle technology has intrinsic chemical stability, allowing for a wider usable pH range [pH 1-12]. This also enables a versatile, robust separation technology for method development. The BEH particle technology is available in a variety of HPLC particle sizes [2.5, 3.5, 5, and 10-µm] which allows for a seamless transition between HPLC and UPLC technology platforms.

What shortens column lifetime?

Every UPLC column will be usable for only a certain number of injections. Usage and maintenance standards are important to ensure scientists are working accurately and must be met. However, there are some commonly known factors that can impact how long an individual column lasts. Any column that becomes contaminated or clogged by particles is a common reason for columns to be unusable before their estimated lifetime. Any contamination in the frits will cause column backpressure, which causes stress on the pump and leads to a column settling and creating a void. Unspecific sorption and column repacking can also lead to columns becoming unusable early in their lifetime. General guidance is to replace your column if the nature of your sample changes or backpressure is increased if this occurs before the timed basis.
