Product Description

ACQUITY BEH Amide columns retain extremely polar compounds, including carbohydrates and sugars. Based on BEH technology the ACQUITY Amide columns offer a chemically stable, trifunctionally bonded amide phase that is stable from pH 2 to 12 to enable the separation of polar analytes that span a wide range of polarity, structural moiety and pKa. The VanGuard pre-column connects directly to the inlet of the ACQUITY UPLC column which minimizes extra columns volumes and reduces leaking by eliminating additional connections.

FAQs about ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column

What role does the ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column play in chromatographic separation?
The ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column is designed to protect the main analytical column from contamination and reduce peak tailing for compounds that are prone to interaction with silanol groups, leading to improved peak shapes and resolution.

In what kind of chromatographic methods is the ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column typically utilized?
The ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column is typically used in hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) methods for the retention and separation of polar compounds that are poorly retained by reversed-phase chromatography.

What are the advantages of using a vanguard pre-column like the ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column?
Vanguard pre-columns, such as the ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column, can improve the quality of separations and extend the lifetime of the analytical column by protecting it from sample matrix effects and early phase degradation.

How does the ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column affect method development times?
By providing consistent peak shapes and reducing the need for frequent column changes, the ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column can significantly reduce method development times and improve overall lab efficiency.

What maintenance is required for the ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column?
Regular maintenance of the ACQUITY UPLC BEH Amide Vanguard Pre-Column involves flushing with a suitable solvent to prevent build-up of retained material and storing it under conditions recommended by the manufacturer to ensure its longevity and performance.

What Is HILIC?

Another form of chromatography, Hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) is a variant of normal phase liquid forms of the practice. It partially overlaps with other chromatographic applications but uses hydrophilic stationary phases with reverse- phase style eluents. It has been described by its primary chromatographic mechanism, a liquid-liquid partition where analytes elute in order of increasing polarity. In HILIC, any polar chromatographic surface can be used, including non-polar bonded silicas. Columns designed for HILIC focus on overcoming challenges like retention and separation of extremely polar compounds.
