Symmetry C18 Column, 100Å, 3.5 µm, 4.6 mm X 100 mm, 1/pk
Ensuring that you receive a column that exceeds the standards for HPLC column performance, Symmetry C18 Columns are manufactured with high purity silica and tightly controlled manufacturing processes. No other silica-based LC columns match the reproducibility seen between batches and columns within the Symmetry family, or their accompanying lab equipment. Chromatographers rely on Symmetry C18 Columns for rugged and reproducible performance, knowing that narrow column specification ranges to minimize variation. This can give you confidence that the methods you use today will continue to be used for years to come.
Featuring monofunctionally bonded C18 ligands on a high purity base-deactivated silica, Symmetry columns focus on reproducibility by using the narrowest ligand surface coverage specifications in the industry, knowing that surface coverage is one of the most important factors when it comes to reproducibility. The impact of this low variation in surface coverage on the amitriptyline/acenaphthene alpha specification for Symmetry C18 columns allows chromatographers to achieve consistently reproducible results. By using the tightest surface coverage requirements in the industry, these columns offer minimal shifts in resolution along with enhanced reproducibility.
Symmetry C18 columns deliver this consistent performance by optimizing two key factors that control column lifetime – hydrolytic stability of the packing material and mechanical stability of the packed bed. This also leads to columns with longer lifetimes, allowing you to save money by using a Symmetry C18 Column to last for over 10,000 injections with minimal loss in efficiency, minimal increase in backpressure, and minimal change in retention time. A Symmetry C18 VanGuard Cartridge, 100Å, 3.5 µm, 3.9 mm X 5 mm, 3/pk can also help to extend lifetimes when applied.
When And How Should I Clean Symmetry C18 Columns?
If you notice changes in peak shape, peak splitting, shoulders on the peak, shifts in retention, changes in resolution, or increased backpressure, this may indicate that the column has become contaminated. To remove a contaminant, it is usually sufficient to flush with a neat organic solvent, taking care not to precipitate buffers. If this does not work, purge the column using cleaning procedures that match the properties of your samples and/or what you believe is causing the contamination. Increasing mobile phase temperature to 35-55 C increases cleaning efficiency. If column performance remains poor after regeneration and cleaning, contact Waters for additional support.
