RapiGest™ SF, is a innovative anionic surfactant that drastically improves in-solution protein digestion in terms of speed and peptide recovery. It is especially valuable in protein sample preparation for mass spectrometry (MS) analysis by avoiding high background noise often seen from other common surfactants.
RapiGest™ SF is available in a variety of formats. This part contains five, 1mg vials that contain enough material for 1-50 digestions. Add RapiGest™ SF to your proteolytic digestion, (using trypsin or other enzymes) to enhance digestion speed and increase peptide recovery.

RapiGest SF, 1 mg , 5/pk
Improve protein enzymatic digestions in terms of speed and percent recovery with the Waters RapiGest SF(surfactant). RapiGest is a patented anionic surfactant that speeds up the in-solution production of peptides generated by proteases, such as trypsin, Asp-N, Glu-C, and Lys-C.
Solubilize and unfold proteins with the RapiGest SF by making them more amenable to cleavage without denaturing or inhibiting common proteolytic enzymes as it is a mild denaturant. This is significant since many hydrophobic proteins are resistant to proteolysis because their cleavage sites are inaccessible to endoproteases.
Benefits of RapiGest include improving the protein sequence coverage and reducing sample preparation time. It also reduces digestion time and requires fewer enzymes to achieve optimum digestion. Digestion of enzyme resistant proteins such as membrane proteins is also improved with RapiGest. It is especially valuable in protein sample preparation for mass spectrometry (MS) analysis by avoiding high background noise often seen from other common surfactants, making it a valuable addition to your lab equipment.
The five pack of RapiGest SF 1 mg vials contains enough material for anywhere from 1 to 50 digestions, making it a superb option for anyone looking to enhance digestion speed and increase peptide recovery. The RapiGest SF, 50 mg, 1/pk is available in other formats and the vial sizes vary from 1mg to 10mg and 50 mg. How Should The RapiGest SF Be Stored?
The lyophilized powder is stable at room temperature until the expiration date printed on the label (i.e., 3 years after packaging). Once reconstituted in high purity water or a buffer (pH 7–10) the solution is stable for one week when stored at 2–8 °C. Long term storage of frozen aliquots is possible but not recommended due to potential solubilization issues of RapiGest SF or storage buffer. Note that the RapiGest SF hydrolyzes in acidic solutions due to a half-life of 8 minutes at a pH level of 2 and a half-life of 60 minutes at a pH level of 3.
