Product Description

RapiGest™ SF, is a innovative anionic surfactant that drastically improves in-solution protein digestion in terms of speed and peptide recovery.  It is especially valuable in protein sample preparation for mass spectrometry (MS) analysis by avoiding high background noise often seen from other common surfactants.
RapiGest™ SF is available in a variety of formats.  This part contains one, 10 mg vial for larger scale digestions.  Add RapiGest™ SF to your proteolytic digestion, (using trypsin or other enzymes) to enhance digestion speed and increase peptide recovery.

RapiGest SF, 10 mg, 1/pk

Enhance in-gel and in-solution enzymatic digestion of proteins with the reagent RapiGest SF. By helping solubilize proteins, RapiGest SF makes them more susceptible to enzymatic cleavage without significantly inhibiting enzyme activity and remains heat stable to support higher temperature digestions. Unlike other commonly used denaturants, RapiGest SF will not modify peptides or suppress endoprotease activity. This acid labile surfactant undergoes hydrolysis in acidic conditions, allowing it to be utilized to remove surfactants from solutions when desired.

A patented anionic surfactant, RapiGest SF accelerates the in-solution production of peptides generated by proteases, including trypsin, Asp=-N, Glu-C, and Lys-C. Many hydrophobic proteins are resistant to proteolysis because their cleavage sites are inaccessible to endoproteases, a problem solved when RapiGest helps to solubilize and unfold these proteins to make them more amenable to cleavage without denaturing or inhibiting common proteolytic enzymes.

Compatible with various enzymes, the RapiGest SF surfactant does not cause protein modifications or inhibit enzyme activity and improves the solubility of hydrophobic proteins, leading to improved enzymatic digest. Digestion time is reduced, requiring less enzyme to achieve optimum digestion, and digestion of enzyme resistant proteins like membrane proteins are reduced. Acid labile and the degradation products from RapiGest do not interfere with LC-MS or MALDI MS analysis.

RapiGest SF is available in a variety of formats, including this 10 mg vial for larger-scale digestions and RapiGest SF, 1 mg to 50 mg options. The surfactant can be used with Waters lab equipment or added to proteolytic digestion for enhanced speed and increased peptide recovery. RapiGest SF is especially valued for scientists working in protein sample preparation for mass spectrometry as It can avoid background noise that is often seen in other surfactants.

What Are The Storage Requirements For The RapiGest SF?

The lyophilized powder in RapiGest SF is stable at room temperature before the expiration date listed on the packaging. This date will be 3 years after packaging in many cases. Once it has been reconstituted using high purity water or a buffer of pH 7-10, the solution is stable for one week when stored between 2 and 8 degrees C. Long term storage of frozen aliquots is possible, but is not recommended due to potential solubilization issues of RapiGest SF or storage buffer.
