Overview

Equipment and installation

The ionKey source is available in 2 versions, depending on the type of MS instrument in use. The ToF based instrument source includes additional lock mass sample introduction for exact mass measurement.

Each source is supplied with sample, calibration, and diagnostic iKeys, together with the necessary interconnecting tubing and cabling to attach the source to the existing MS instrument and ACQUITY UPLC M-Class System. Where appropriate, new software, operation documentation, and additional MS instrument paneling is also included.

The ionKey source is supported for use with ACQUITY UPLC M-Class Systems for quadrupole instruments and both M-Class and nanoACQUITY UPLC Systems for ToF based instruments. These instruments are listed below.

Installation, performance confirmation, and operation training by a Waters Field Service Engineer is required.

Existing M-Class and nanoACQUITY UPLC Systems must be fully operational to enable performance demonstration of the new ionKey source.

Instrument compatibility

The ionKey micoflow source is available for the following MS instruments:

  • Xevo TQ-S, Xevo TQ-S micro
  • Xevo G2-XS Tof, Xevo G2-XS QTof
  • SYNAPT G2-S MS, SYNAPT G2-Si MS
  • SYNAPT G2-S HDMS, SYNAPT G2-Si HDMS

Back To Top Back To Top

The ionKey UPLC Microflow Source is an advanced tool designed to enhance the performance and sensitivity of ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) systems. It operates at significantly lower flow rates (microliters per minute) than traditional high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and UPLC systems, making efficient use of samples and reducing solvent consumption. This low flow rate is particularly beneficial when working with limited or precious samples.

A key feature of the ionKey UPLC Microflow Source is its exceptional sensitivity, which allows for the detection and quantification of low-abundance compounds that might be missed with higher flow rate systems. The system's design reduces dispersion and increases analyte concentration, resulting in improved signal-to-noise ratios and more reliable readings. This high sensitivity is critical for applications requiring precise measurements, such as pharmacokinetics, biomarker studies, and metabolomics.

The system also features a direct connection to the mass spectrometer without the need for flow splitting, simplifying setup and reducing potential points of failure. By directing the entire sample into the detector, the ionKey UPLC Microflow Source maximizes sensitivity and data quality. Additionally, it utilizes the iKey separations device, a compact, easy-to-use cartridge that integrates the separation column, allowing for quick replacements and maintenance, ensuring consistent performance and minimizing downtime.

The ionKey UPLC Microflow Source offers several advantages: it is cost-effective due to its efficient use of samples and solvents, versatile for various applications, and user-friendly with a reduced learning curve. It integrates seamlessly with existing UPLC and mass spectrometry systems, enhancing performance without requiring major workflow changes.

This tool is invaluable in fields such as drug development, clinical research, environmental testing, and food and beverage analysis, providing detailed and accurate analysis essential for ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. Overall, the ionKey UPLC Microflow Source represents a significant advancement in analytical technology, combining low flow rates, high sensitivity, and ease of use for a wide range of applications.
