Holder Kit for Cartridge and Guard Columns

In order to extend the lifetime and improve the performance of analytical HPLC columns, Waters’ Sentry Guard Columns are designed to guard against particulate and chemical contamination in the mobile phase stream. These columns can then intercept any contaminants that may damage the analytical column, prolonging the life of the lab equipment. Each guard column contains packing materials identical to those used in Waters HPLC columns. The Holder Kit for Cartridge and Guard Columns allows for improved use of Sentry guard columns with an inner diameter of 3.0, 3.9, or 4.6 mm and a length of 20 mm. The kit contains a Sentry guard column holder along with a column joining tube assembly, allowing the holder to connect to the analytical column. To ensure a connection without leaks, additional O-Ring, Kalrex, 2/pk can be purchased.

Waters’ Sentry Guard columns are designed to provide both high efficiency and high capacity, improving the plate count of analytical columns and offering sufficient capacity to protect samples from even the dirtiest samples. The Sentry Guard column is available as an included part of Waters cartridge columns, and the Holder Kit for Cartridge and Guard Columns can be purchased separately as a stand-alone holder for use with any Waters analytical HPLC column.

The kit is made with an inner diameter of 4.6 mm and a length of 20 mm. Operating limits include a maximum pressure of 40 MPs (400 Atm, 6000 psi); a temperature limit of 80 C; and an adsorption of 4 mg to 40 mg, depending upon the nature of the contaminants.

FAQS About Holder Kit for Cartridge and Guard Columns

What is included in the Holder Kit for Cartridge and Guard Columns?
The Holder Kit includes a holder assembly designed to accommodate specific cartridge and guard column dimensions. It also comes with the necessary fittings and ferrules to ensure a secure and leak-proof installation within the chromatography system.

What are the specifications of the holder in the kit?
The holder in the kit is designed to fit standard cartridge and guard column sizes, often accommodating columns with diameters from 3 mm to 4.6 mm. It is crafted from materials that provide chemical compatibility and durability under high-pressure conditions.

Is the holder kit compatible with all types of chromatography systems?
The holder kit is designed to be versatile and is generally compatible with a wide range of chromatography systems, including HPLC and UHPLC. However, it"s advisable to check compatibility with specific system requirements regarding column size and operational pressure limits.

Can the holder be adjusted to fit cartridges and guard columns of different sizes?
Yes, the holder is adjustable to accommodate various sizes of cartridges and guard columns within a certain range. This adjustability allows for flexibility in method development and the ability to switch between different column sizes as needed without requiring multiple holders.

How do I maintain the holder kit to ensure longevity and performance?
Regular maintenance of the holder kit involves checking for any signs of wear or chemical degradation, especially in the sealing areas. It is recommended that the holder be cleaned periodically using compatible solvents and that the seals and ferrules be replaced as needed to prevent leaks and ensure a tight seal.

How Do I Install The Universal Guard Column Holder?

The Universal Guard Column Holder should be installed between the injector and the column. All tubing connections should use a 0.009-inch i.d. tubing. To minimize the length of tubing between the guard column and the analytical column, ensure that the tubing is seated in the bottom of the fitting prior to tightening the compression screw.
